Terry Sandstrom was fortunate to have spent most of his life in an area steeped in the history of the settlement of the Great Plains. His love for the history and geology of the land, combined with his 50 years in the railroad industry is his driving force. "My goal is to make history tangible and help folks develop a desire to keep it alive for generations to come." He currently works with the area museums, lectures historical societies, and guides historical field trips. He will be sharing his knowledge, artifacts, photographs, and documents from the past, helping you to truly experience the history and geology of this area.
Retreat reservation includes, 3 nights stay at High Plains Homestead, daily sessions, and field trips with
Terry Sandstrom to the Crawford Rock Swap, and Fort Robinson. Continental Breakfast provided, all
other meals on your own with full access to the cooking facilities at the Homestead. Reservation
requests by phone only 308-665-2592, non-refundable deposit required.
Cost: $100 per night per room or $35 per night per bed, bunkhouse style.
Friday: 4:00 pm Check-in
5:00 pm Meet Terry Sandstrom, overview of the weekend.
6:00 pm Fossil shed, village, mercantile, and pool open, meal on your own
Saturday: 7:00 am-9:00 am Continental Breakfast available in the Saloon
9:00 am Terry Sandstrom, lecture on Rocks and Minerals
11:00 Field trip with Terry to Crawford Park to enjoy the Rock Swap
Lunch on your own.
4:00 pm at the Homestead, lecture, and discussion with Terry of rocks and discoveries of
the day. Time in the Fossil shed with Terry’s display.
6:00 pm Village, mercantile, and pool open, meal on your own
Sunday: 7:00 am-9:00 am Continental Breakfast available in the Saloon
9:00 am Terry Sandstrom, Lecture on Ft. Robinson
10:30 am Field Trip to Ft. Robinson, guided by Terry (State Park pass required. The Homestead
will refund the day pass fee with receipt. Carpool if possible)
Lunch on your own and exploring at the Fort
2:00 pm Meet Terry at the Crazy Horse memorial site at the Fort for a lecture on Crazy Horse
history at the Fort
4:00 pm At the Homestead, wrap up and Q&A with Terry, last chance in the Fossil Shed with
6:00 pm Village, mercantile, and pool open, meal on your own.
